When I came to Rosendo Diaz’s Brazilian Jiu jitsu academy, I was a former wrestler looking for an activity to keep me fit.  I wanted an activity that was safe, fun, and challenging. Not only did Rosendo Diaz Brazilian jiu jitsu meet these expectations, but also exceeded them. While training with Rosendo, I have lost close to 30 pounds, tremendously improved my flexibility, and, most importantly, learned to defend myself.  Many times people get into BJJ thinking about MMA or for sport, in either case; Rosendo begins with a solid foundation of self-defense and builds up. Whether your interest is in MMA or submission grappling, Rosendo will provide you a solid foundation that translates into all aspects of BJJ: self-defense, sports grappling, or MMA. I have trained in Brazil, with BJJ world champions, and with UFC veterans, in every case, having trained under the precise instruction of Rosendo gave me an advantage.

Still, I do not want to give the impression that Rosendo Diaz’s Brazilian Jiu jitsu academy is only for serious training and fighters. The school’s environment is friendly and welcoming. The friendship and camaraderie resembles a large extended family more than a traditional martial arts school.

I recommend to everyone, come and train with Rosendo and you will not regret it!

Gavin Enck - Knoxville, TN

fadi

“I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in June of 2003, under the instruction of Rosendo Diaz (1st degree Royler Gracie/David Adiv RGDA certified black belt) in Telford, Pennsylvania.

At the time I started training I was overweight and my physical condition was very poor.  I had tried all kinds of diets, training programs and supplements to help resolve my weight problem but nothing worked.  After doing some extensive research, I decided to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since it involved group activity and would teach me self defense in the process.

Under the tutelage of Rosendo Diaz I was able to improve my physique, lose weight and make a lot of friends along the way!  I have lost a total of 87lbs and now I feel great!

If you live in the lehigh valley area, and you are trying to improve your physique, learn self defense, become a world class Jiu Jitsu player or just make some friends and have fun.  I highly recommend training at Gracie PA, under Rosendo Diaz.”

The Benefits of Private Lessons

Private lessons, while not typical in most styles of martial arts, has become a major part of training and development of the overall jiu-jitsu game. For the beginner, the private lesson provides the student with a strong base from which to expand his/her training. Your instructor will focus on the specifics of the basics and will give you the tools to enable you to self correct your game.

For the intermediate or advanced student, private lessons give them a chance to work on developing a specific game. It can also be beneficial for working on problem areas. Overall private lessons with your instructor, regardless of your training level, will give the tools to super charge your training!

Our instructors are available for lessons Monday through Saturday at our Chalfont location.  For more information on one on one lessons, Click Here!

Program Overview

At the Rosendo Diaz Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we’re not just about training for sport Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.  Here you will find programs specifically designed to suit everyone’s needs.  Whether you are looking for classes in self defense, police control and compliance, specialized women’s awareness and self defense (Rape prevention, violence and home protection), we have the experience to help you meet your goals.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) also has a proven track record in helping those in need of weight loss or those just wanting to improve their current health and fitness levels.  Each class is designed to not only teach you the art of Jiu-Jitsu, but also to target your core muscle strength through great warm ups, drills and exercises.  From there the class will move on to improving your overall flexibility and conditioning levels.  You’ll find each class will be a fun, exciting and challenging experience.

We have programs specifically designed to get you where you want to be.  Men, women, kids, families are all welcome at our academy; we can help you meet your goals!  Our staff is friendly, understanding and eager to provide you with personalized attention utilizing small class settings and one-on-one instruction.

Self Defense
Unlike learning a set of specific moves to defend against an attacker, training at the Rosendo Diaz Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy emphasizes the fundamentals of position and leverage. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training is specifically designed to use these fundamentals instead of strength, allowing a smaller person to defend and maneuver a larger person.

In the course of training, students will encounter uncomfortable positions that allow a calmness of mind and maturity to develop. Rosendo Diaz Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy students, espcially women, feel more confident in potentially threatening situations because of the familiarity they have developed along with realistic expectations.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training integrates the skills needed for self-defense while blending an incredible strength, conditioning and flexibility workout. Our program mixes standup skills and ground defense in an atmosphere that promotes fun and fitness. Not only will you learn to defend yourself, but you will develop stamina and increased alertness.

We understand that students that begin training jiu-jitsu have different abilities and motivations. It is our goal to provide each of these students, regardless of their size or strength, the means by which to defend themselves.

The self-defense program at the Rosendo Diaz Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is based on the curriculum developed at the Gracie Academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Self-defense fundamentals are learned in group classes and private classes address specific situations you may encounter. Contact the academy for more information and availability.

Sport Jiu-Jitsu
The name may be misleading but this section is meant to enhance your abilities in the Jiu-Jitsu game. Its concept is simple; instead of facing off against an opponent that has no skills on the ground, you are facing off against an experienced opponent. This section allows for perfection of the basics as well as a myriad of combinations and counters against experienced grapplers.

Vale Tudo/NHB
In essence this is the combination of the first two sections. This is where you “put it all together”. This section allows you to use your defensive game and combine it with the sport style.

Frequently Asked Questions

rosendo_seminar3

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
The Gracie family developed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the mid 1900’s. BJJ, put simply, is traditional Jiu-Jitsu/Judo modified to meet the demands of real, no rules, fighting that was prevalent in the streets of Brazil.

What is the difference between Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and BJJ?
BJJ’s concentration on ground fighting skills and constant live practice differentiates it from most Japanese Jiu-Jitsu systems. BJJ was not created in a vacuum and you will find many of the positions and techniques in other traditional systems, but BJJ specialization on ground fighting is unique.

If my opponent is bigger and stronger than me, won’t he always beat me?
Especially when you first begin training and your arsenal of techniques is limited (as well as your understanding and “feel” for positioning) the stronger, faster opponent will dominate. This is natural, however, the emphasis in BJJ is not on superior athleticism but on using leverage, balance and pressure to control and ultimately submit a larger, stronger opponent. This is the ideal goal of Jiu-Jitsu. If you do not make a commitment from early on to concentrate on developing your skills but rather always relying on your natural abilities, your development will hit a plateau very quickly and you will never gain a greater understanding of Jiu-Jitsu and your own potential.

How long does it take to get ranked in BJJ?
This varies greatly from club to club, team to team, instructor to instructor, and most importantly, from individual to individual. Skill in Jiu-Jitsu is gained from experience and proper technical application not by how many moves you know. Every person will progress according to his own abilities and goals. Though there are many exceptions, the average time is approximately 1-1.5 years to blue belt, 3 years from blue to purple belt, 3 years from purple to brown bel t and then 3-5 years to gain your black belt. The average committed student can expect a journey of 10-12 years to gain the black belt.

The Royler Gracie-David Adiv Jiu-Jitsu Team ranking is as follows:

• White belt
• White belt 1-4 stripes
• Blue belt
• Purple belt
• Brown belt
• Black belt
